If you're just getting started with wakeboarding, our team of wakeboard enthusiasts at Buxton Marine provide these beginner wakeboard tricks for you to try out.The first lesson in beginner wakeboard tricks is to learn how to properly edge on your wakeboard. There is a heelside and a toeside to your board. Depending on which way you lean, that's the direction your board will take you. To edge heelside on your board, you will sit back as if you're sitting down into a chair and put the weight on your heels. Keeping the rope pulled in at your waist, the wakeboard will naturally take you in the direction of your heelside. When you're ready to return in the opposite direction, you'll simply transfer the weight onto the balls of your feet and onto your toes and the board will naturally take you in the direction of your toeside. Feeling comfortable with edging on your wakeboard is primary to beginner wakeboard tricks. Now, since you're comfortable edging both toeside and heelside, you're ready to go outside the wake and attempt your beginner wakeboard tricks. The first trick you can attempt is a surface 180. It's called a surface 180 because your board won't leave the surface of the water. With the rope pulled in at your waist, lean your weight onto your heels and rotate your body above the rib cage to turn the board 180-degrees and redistribute your weight. To return to regular riding stance, put your weight on your toes and rotate your body above the rib cage to turn the board 180-degrees and redistribute your weight.Another beginner wakeboard trick is to attempt an ollie. This will feel a little different than a skateboard ollie, in that you'll push down on your front leg and then immediately pop your front leg up, followed by your back leg to launch into the air. It's sometimes easiest to attempt this trick outside the wake where the water is most calm. For these beginner wakeboard tricks and more, head to Buxton Marine in Lewisville, Texas and talk with our boating enthusiasts.
