Buxton Marine specializes in selling the best wakeboard and wakesurf boats on the market, and we realize the importance of proper maintenance to maintain value and keep your boat looking brand-new for years to come. While cleaning the exterior of your boat is important, it’s also important to give your boat’s interior a regular scrubbing as well. Here are a few simple tips from Buxton Marine on how to clean your boat’s interior:

Teak

Does your boat have teak finishes? Teak is a very hardy, water resistant wood, often used in boat interiors. When cleaning teak, the first step is to use a power washer to remove any caked on dirt or grime that has buried its way into the wood. Once the dirt is removed, you’ll want to apply teak oil, and once a year, use a teak sealer to further protect the finish and keep it looking brand new.

Vinyl

Vinyl is often used on boat interiors because of its ability to resist the elements. Sure, sun and water can take its toll, but at a slower rate than other materials – particularly if you regularly clean and maintain it! First, get hot, soapy water and a sponge and go to town removing dirt, mildew, and other unsightly blemishes. Second, use a vinyl cleaner (spray is great) to further remove anything remaining and to provide protection for the vinyl in the future. Third, spray everything down with clean, hot water and dry with a microfiber cloth.

Bilge

This is a part of the interior of the boat many want to forget about cleaning, but it’s necessary for keeping unsightly odors, rust, and mildew at bay. Before cleaning your bilge, consult your manufacturer on if they recommend a certain bilge cleaner. The key here is to use a bilge cleaner – vs. regular soap and water – as it is designed to be biodegradable and not interfere with any innerworkings of your boat. In most cases, you’ll rub the cleaner on the bilge, allow it to sit for a few hours, then rinse to remove.
