How to Prevent Wakeboard Injuries This Summer
There are good times ahead for your friends and family, spending long days at the lake, enjoying your Nautique boat from Buxton Marine in Lewisville, Texas.
And chances are, some of your guests will be enjoying a few runs on the wakeboard while they’re out.
Here are a few tips on how to stay safe and avoid injury while wakeboarding this summer:
- Don’t Wakeboard After Dusk
Once the sun starts to go down, put the wakeboard away and just enjoy the evening. Wakeboarding without enough light may sound like a new challenge to conquer, but the truth is, the lack of sunlight makes is very difficult to see obstacles that might creep up on you in the water.
- Keep Your Knees Bent
A common wakeboarding injury is one to the knees, particularly from riders who buckle their knees or stand with their legs too straight. Instead, make sure you have a slight bend in your knees at all times. If you’ve undergone knee surgery or severe injury in the past, be sure to talk with your doctor before wakeboarding to make sure your knees are up to the challenge.
- Concentration is Key
When wakeboarding, it can be tempting to get distracted by the scenery or other boats, but stay focused! Concentrate on where you are going and what you are doing in order to avoid wakeboarding injuries.
- Wear a Helmet
While not the most flattering lake accessory, a helmet is a good idea if you are an advanced wakeboarder who is working on new tricks.
