Wakeboard Shopping: How to Choose the Right Wakeboard for You
When you’re wakeboard shopping – whether you are beginner who is brand new to the sport or a seasoned rider looking to upgrade – the endless features and brands can be overwhelming. How do you know which board is right for you? Buxton Marine has a large Lewisville pro shop, with lots of the latest models from the top manufacturers. Our staff is educated on all things wakeboarding and can offer any pointers you may need. In the meantime, here are a few recommendations on how to choose the right wakeboard for you:
Height & Weight
First off, you must consider the rider’s height and weight. Each manufacturer will have different guidelines for this, so check those carefully, but generally speaking, riders under 100 lbs. are looking for a board that is 130 inches or less in length– while someone who is 170-250 is going to want a board that is at least 140 inches in length. If multiple people are using the board you are wakeboard shopping for, then go with the longest length that corresponds with the height and weight of the rider who will ride the most. Again, each board manufacturer and shape will have different guidelines, so ask the wakeboard professionals at the Buxton Marine pro shop for help!
Skill Level
Skill level also comes into play when choosing a board. Advanced riders will be looking for something that has a continuous or 3-stage rocker style and may prefer a slightly shorter board for pop and spin in the air, while beginners will be focused on longer board styles that glide across the water with more ease. Trial and error can come into play as you determine the board that is right for you when wakeboard shopping. Ready to find the perfect wakeboard?
